Rankings & Prize Structure Explained
Poker tournaments ranking follows the “leaderboards” structure. This is how we calculate ranks:
- Players keep getting eliminated from the tournament after each round.
- Your rank will be calculated throughout the tournament based on your chips stack at that stage in the tournament.
- The greater the chips stack, the better the rank.
Example: Player A with a 10,123 chips stack will rank higher than Player B with a stack of 10,122 chips. - Rankings will be updated at the end of each hand.
- The hands for all the open tables will start at the same time as the tournament proceeds to the final table.
- Your rank will be finalized and the corresponding prize (if any) will be awarded at the time of elimination. In case of a tie between 2 or more eliminated players, a specific set of rules will be used to calculate the prize.
Poker Tournaments Terminology
- Ante: Mandatory bets that are put in by all the players before any cards are dealt, after which small and big blinds are placed are called Ante.
- Blinds: Automatic bets placed by the players sitting on the blinds positions (Big Blind & Small Blind).
- Breaks: The regular intervals at which players take a rest during a tournament are referred to as breaks.
- Buy-in: The currency required for participation is referred to as buy-in.
*Please note that this buy-in is different from other cash games since it is fixed and does not require a minimum and maximum buy-in. - Entries: The total number of players that have registered in the tournament.
- GTD Tournaments: GTD stands for ‘Guaranteed.’ These tournaments have a guaranteed prize pool, irrespective of participation.
- Paid ranks: The total number of ranks which will be given a share of the prize pool are called paid ranks. Different tournaments will have different numbers of paid ranks.
- Prize pool: Total amount of money that will be disbursed at the end of the tournament is called the prize pool.
