Poker Table Terms

• Dealer (D): A dealer distributes the cards and manages poker actions during the game.
• Blinds: Blinds is a forced or mandatory bet in the game. It starts with the player sitting left to the dealer.
• Small blind (SB): The player seated to the left of the dealer needs to pay small blind. It is by default.

• Straight Flush: It is five cards in sequence of the same suit. For example, 8♣ 7♣ 6♣ 5♣ 4♣.

• One Pair: Two cards of the same rank, along with three unrelated cards. For example, 6♣ 6♥ A♠ 8♦ 10♠.
• High Card: If no other hand is formed, the highest card in your hand is considered. It is the lowest poker hand ranking.

Poker Round Terms

• Pre-flop: Pre-flop is the first round in poker games before any community cards are revealed. Each player calls Small and big blinds. Players can check, call, raise, bet, or fold in this round.
• Flop: Flop is the second round when the dealer opens three community cards. All the players can see these. After this, the betting round happens.
• Turn: It is the third round in poker. The dealer puts the fourth community card, called the Turn card, on the table. After this, again, the betting round happens.
• River: This is the final round. The dealer deals the fifth and final community card on the table, the River card. After this, the last round of betting happens.
• Showdown: Every remaining player on the table reveals their cards. The player with the best hand wins the pot. 

Advance Poker Terms

These advanced terms are less used in poker but should be known for a beginner and a professional poker player.

• Backdoor: Backdoor means using the turn and river cards to make a poker hand.
• Bad Beat: This means that a player with a strong hand loses the round to another player with a better hand.
• Draw Dead: Draw dead is when a player has no chance of winning.
• Fish: A player who is new to poker and has no experience.
• Shark: It means a player who is a very experienced poker player.
• Kicker: The kicker is the card used when two or more players have the same hand. The higher the kicker, the better the chances of winning.
